Modern Pain Science To Treat Orthopedic Conditions
No matter what your age, when surgery, injury, or wear-and-tear from your athletic performance, cause persistent or chronic pain, we use a multi-modal, systematic approach called FNOR™ to effectively treat pain and rapidly restore function.
What is FNOR™?
Functional Neuro-Orthopedic Rehabilitation (FNOR™) is a combination of neuroscience, physical therapy, biotechnology and modern pain management with a non-surgical, non-pharmaceutical approach.
If you can answer "yes" to any of the following questions, then we can help.
Does chronic pain continue to plague you since an accident, injury or surgery?
Does pain affect your athletic performance?
Do your day-to-day movements or activities become frustratingly limited?
Common orthopedic conditions* we treat, include:
- ARM AND SHOULDER PAIN - rotator cuff injury, tennis elbow, golfers elbow
- SPINE CONDITIONS - lower back pain, neck pain, disc injury
- HIP AND LEG PROBLEMS - hip arthritis, knee pain, runners knee, Achilles tendon pain, plantar fasciitis
*Orthopedics deals with the treatment of the musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and nerves.)
FNORTM trained Rehabilitation Specialists
As FNORTM trained rehabilitation professionals, we use specialized techniques in our treatment that intensively stimulate both body and brain, to re-establish connections and boost function.
By treating body and brain simultaneously, you experience unusually rapid reductions in pain and improvements in overall function, even after a long-history of chronic pain or multiple, prior surgeries.
Even more amazing is that the FNORTM system is applied across a range of common orthopedic conditions beyond joint and spine pain, including
- movement dysfunction
- gait abnormalities
- even non-somatic conditions such as traumatic brain injury (including concussion) and stroke.
Where Did FNOR Start?
Functional Neuro-Orthopedic Rehabilitation (FNORTM ) began as a project seeking to explore non-invasive, pain-relieving approaches in the treatment of persistent chronic, post-surgical pain and turned into a modern rehabilitation system.
The FNORTM approach is based, in part, on the premise that the brain is best stimulated by therapies that are tailored to the individual’s unique nervous system and by directing these therapies at affected areas of the nervous system.
For many patients, the FNOR™ approach brings the real relief they've been waiting for.
What type of specialized training have our doctors received?
Dr. Kelly W. Smith carries board certifications in Chiropractic (Northwestern College of Chiropractic), Functional Neurology (Carrick Institute for Graduate Studies), Acupuncture (American Academy of Medical Acupuncture) and an undergraduate degree in Biology/Chemistry (Concordia College).
Dr. Ala L. Lysyk Smith carries board certifications in Chiropractic (Northwestern College of Chiropractic), Functional Neurology (Carrick Institute for Graduate Studies), Acupuncture (American Academy of Medical Acupuncture) and an undergraduate degree in Biology (Queen’s University).
